Round 4 of the 70º OPEN D'ITALIA LINDT produced 36 sub-par rounds and a field average score of 71.91. Julien Quesne emerged as the winner on -12 with Higgins and Webster finishing as his closest challengers on -11. We analyse their performances and round up the final Genworth Statistics leaders.

Julien QUESNE -12
Julien Quesne converted seven birdies against one double bogey on his way to a final round 67 (which included coming home in 31 shots), to win the second European Tour title of his career to date. Looking at his Genworth Statistics for the week, the 33 year old French golfer was steady with the longer clubs but exceptional both on and around the greens with the shorter clubs, ranking very high for each of the short game categories. Usually, the tournament winner performs consistently well across the different hole types but oddly that wasn’t the case this week (he ranked 1st for Par 4 Scoring but struggled a little on the Par 3’s and Par 5’s). Overall, Julien accumulated 20 birdies in total (ranking 1st for that category) and as a result of this win, climbs up to 41st position on the Race to Dubai, comfortably in place for the upcoming Final Series.

David HIGGINS -11
David Higgins converted six birdies against two bogeys on his way to a final round 68, to finish 2nd (the best finish of his career to date). Looking at his Genworth Statistics for the week, the 40 year old Irish golfer drove the ball straight (this is a strength in his game) and hit a solid 73.6% of the Greens in Regulation, but it was his performance with the short stick which seemed the best, ranking very high for the three Genworth Putting categories. Interestingly, David produced the same scoring patterns at the winner, whereby he ranked 2nd for Par 4 Scoring but also struggled a little on the Par 3’s and Par 5’s (plus he too accumulated 20 birdies in total). With this result, David climbs up to 111th on the Race to Dubai, very close to the vital 110th position for avoiding a 14th visit back to Tour School.

Steve WEBSTER -11
Steve Webster converted five birdies against a single bogey on his way to a final round 68, for his 2nd runner-up finish of the year. Looking at his Genworth Statistics for the week, the 38 year old English golfer performed exceptionally well from tee to green, ranking 10th for Driving Accuracy, 15th for Driving Distance and 6th for Greens in Regulation. It is amazing that he too produced a similar pattern of scoring as Quesne and Higgins, with fantastic Par 4 scoring but very average Par 3 and Par 5 scoring. Overall, the leading trio were a combined 7 over Par on the Par 3’s (very poor), 29 under Par on the Par 4’s (incredibly good) and 12 under Par on the Par 5’s (quite average). That is an unprecedented series of scoring from a tournament leading trio.
