Genworth Stats Pack - Round 3 Review

Round 3 of the KLM Open produced 16 sub-par rounds and a field average score of 72.33. Joost Luiten leads on -10 with Miguel Angel Jiménez, Julien Quesne and Damien McGrane following behind. We analyse their performances and round up the Genworth Statistics leaders.

Joost LUITEN -10

Joost Luiten converted six birdies against two bogeys on his way to an exciting third round 66 (the lowest round of the day), which interestingly only included 6 Greens in Regulation in the tough conditions (many of the players struggled to hit the greens during round 3). But his performance on and around the putting surfaces was simply spectacular, holing three times from off the green and taking just 20 putts in total. Looking at his Genworth Statistics for the week so far, the 27 year old home favourite is scoring well across the different hole types (Par 3’s / Par 4’s / Par 5’s) and he has accumulated more birdies than any other player (17 in total).

Miguel Angel JIMÉNEZ -9

It was a day of mostly Pars for Miguel Angel Jiménez, converting one birdie against one bogey on his way to a level Par 70. Looking at his Genworth Statistics for the week so far, the 49 year old Spanish maestro has hit a good number of the fairways (27/39 ranking 14th) but fewer greens than expected for a player lying in 2nd position (30/54 ranking down in 66th). His short game however has been exceptional all week, ranking inside the top three for each of the five official Genworth Short Game statistics categories.

Julien QUESNE -8

Julien Quesne converted one birdie against one bogey on his way to a third round 70 (much the same as Jiménez), and looking at his Genworth Statistics for the week so far, the 33 year old French golfer also ranks high for most of the Short Game categories (once again the same as Jiménez). The most impressive thing about Julien’s play this week though is the fact that he has dropped just one shot in his last 46 holes, which is fantastic (especially considering the leading four players outlined in this report could only manage 32/72 Greens in Regulation between them today).

Damien MCGRANE -8

Damien McGrane converted three birdies on his way to a superb bogey free third round 67 (being the only player to navigate the Kennemer course without dropping any shots in round 3). Looking at his Genworth Statistics for the week so far, the 42 year old Irish golfer ranks 7th for Greens in Regulation (with 41/54 greens) and he is scoring well across the different hole types (Par 3’s / Par 4’s / Par 5’s). Also, Damien has dropped the fewest shots overall of all the players, alongside Jiménez (we can see a bit of a pattern whereby 3 out of the 4 leading players have dropped the fewest shots).
