Genworth Stats Pack - Round 3 Review

Round 3 was completed just in time after a weather interrupted third day at the Tshwane Open. We analyse the performances of the four players tied for the lead with 18 holes to go.

Darren FICHARDT -16

A bogey free third round of 64 fired Darren Fichardt back to the top of the leaderboard, keeping his hopes of back to back victories on the European Tour alive. Statistically, his tee shots and approach play have actually been quite average so far this week, but his short game and putting is fantastic. After three rounds he has taken just 76 putts, in doing so ranking 1st for the Genworth 1 Putts per Round statistic.

Dawie VAN DER WALT -16

Dawie Van Der Walt has not dropped a single shot over the first three rounds, a fantastic achievement. With 18 holes to go he ranks 2nd for the Genworth Greens in Regulation statistic (49/54) and 1st for Scrambles (5/5), plus he tops the Par 4 Scoring with a 3.70 average. If he can make it 72 holes without dropping a shot to lift the title, that will make quite some story.

Charl COETZEE -16

Charl Coetzee has converted 19 birdies over the first 54 holes, the same as Darren Fichardt and more than any other player in the field (that’s 1 in every 2.84 holes played). Six of those birdies were made on the Par 3 holes, resulting in Charl heading up the Par 3 Scoring with a superb 2.50 average. The 31 year old South African will not play in the final group with the other leaders tomorrow, which should allow him to concentrate on his own game rather than keeping an eye on what they are doing.

Mark TULLO -16

The same as Dawie Van Der Walt, Mark Tullo has not dropped a single shot over the first three rounds. Incredibly he also heads up the Par 4 Scoring alongside Dawie as well, with a 3.70 average. The 35 year old golfer from Chile is in great form, having finished 5th in the Africa Open two weeks ago and 9th in the Dimension Data Pro-Am last week. He will fancy his chances tomorrow.
