Genworth Stats Pack - Round 3 Review

Another beautiful day for the third round of the Africa Open saw two South Africans take the lead with 18 holes to go. We analyse and compare the performances of the final groups (by Round 4 Tee Times).

Round 4 Tee Time 12:48 (final group)

Darren Fichardt has made more birdies than any other player (20 in total), mostly due to a magnificent putting display. He ranks first for the Genworth Putts per GIR, Putts per Round and 1 Putts per Round statistics. Darren also leads the Par 5 Scoring with a 4.00 average going into tomorrow’s final round.

Jaco Van Zyl is ranking high in most of the Genworth Statistics categories. Although he has not yet converted a birdie on a Par 3 hole, he is performing very well on the longer holes, including leading the Par 4 Scoring with a 3.72 average. The East London course specialist could have his day tomorrow after 4th place finishes in each of the last two years.

Round 4 Tee Time 12:39 (penultimate group)

The same as Jaco Van Zyl, Grégory Bourdy has not yet converted a birdie on a Par 3 hole although he is also scoring well on the Par 4’s. He ranks 12th for Driving Accuracy and 6th for Greens in Regulation, but he may need to hole a few more putts in the final round tomorrow if he is to overtake the front two.

The half way leader suffered a bit of a third round set back with a score of 73. Following a fantastic driving display of 35 fairways in a row, Adilson Da Silva finally missed his first fairway of the week on the 7th hole today, and then went on to miss two more on the 8th and 9th (where he dropped four shots). He still leads the Genworth Driving Accuracy statistic though (with 93.3%) and is in with a great chance of winning the Africa Open tomorrow.
