Genworth Stats Pack - Round 1 Review

An extended field of 210 players are competing for the Joburg Open this week, with the first two days of play being split over the East Course and West Course at Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club (only the East Course will be used at the weekend). We analyse the performances of the Round 1 leaders Richard Sterne, Maximilian Kieffer and Bryce Easton.

Richard STERNE -8

Richard Sterne has picked up where he left off from last week’s 2nd place in Dubai. At the finish of the first round he leads the Genworth Greens in Regulation statistic (with 17/18 greens) and also leads the Par 5 Scoring with an incredible 3.67 average (made up of one eagle and two birdies). Richard is one of eight players not to have dropped a single shot over the easier West Course.

Maximilian KIEFFER -8

Maximilian Kieffer has also managed to manoeuvre his way around the easier West Course without dropping a shot for 63. His 8 under Par score helped the West Course players achieve a combined total of 132 under Par compared to the East Course players combined total of 15 under Par. Maximilian matched the 17/18 Greens in Regulation of Richard Sterne and he leads the Par 4 Scoring with a 3.64 average.

Bryce EASTON -7

Considering Bryce Easton played the tougher of the two courses, he is perhaps the relative leader at the finish of the first day. He is one of four players to have completed the East Course without dropping a shot, scoring a 65, and he ranks 1st for the Genworth Scrambles statistic (5/5) and 2nd for Putts per Round. But the highlight of Bryce’s day was a hole-in-one at the 12th hole which helped him produce a Par 3 Scoring Average of 2.50 (ranking 3rd).
