Genworth Stats Pack - Preview Report

This week the Genworth Stats Pack heads to Turkey for the third of The Final Series tournaments, the Turkish Airlines Open presented by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, to be held at The Montgomerie Maxx Royal. Our preview highlights some of the marquee names and those with form coming into the event.

Henrik STENSON

Henrik Stenson arrives to compete this week having performed steadily over the first two events of The Final Series (although not yet having fired on all cylinders). Looking at his Genworth Statistics from those China events, in week one the 37 year old Swedish golfer ranked down in 44th for Driving Accuracy and 43rd for Greens in Regulation, whereas in week two things improved up to 29th and 12th respectively (interestingly his rankings for putting produced the opposite effect). In terms of scoring, overall he has been pretty consistent on the Par 4’s, picked up plenty of shots on the Par 5’s but the Par 3’s have not been quite so good. The current world number three still sits in pole position on the Race to Dubai, with every chance of topping the end of season money lists on both sides of the Atlantic.

Justin ROSE

Justin Rose arrives to compete over The Montgomerie Maxx Royal off the back of a 5th place finish in last week’s Final Series event in China, where he performed superbly from tee to green. Looking at his Genworth Statistics for that event, the 33 year old Englishman ranked 3rd for Driving Accuracy (with 42/56 fairways), 9th for Driving Distance (averaging 299 yards) and 2nd for Greens in Regulation (with an impressive 59/72 greens), plus he hit the most Par 5 greens in sub-regulation two shots (5 in total). As we begin the tournament, the current world number five sits in third position on the Race to Dubai, just €325,000 behind Stenson.

Ian POULTER

Ian Poulter arrives as one of the form players with finishes of 15th and 2nd over the first two tournaments of The Final Series. Looking at his Genworth Statistics for those China events, the 37 year old Englishman hit more than 70% of the fairways and greens, but it was his performance with the short stick that really stood out (ranking 2nd for Putts per GIR in week one and 3rd for the same category in week two). Overall, the 12 time European Tour winner has accumulated by far the most birdies over the eight rounds (46 in total) and he begins the week within striking distance (€543,000) of Stenson.

Martin KAYMER

Martin Kaymer also arrives this week as one of the form players with finishes of 13th and 8th from the China events (together with some good results in the period prior to that). Looking at his Genworth Statistics for The Final Series so far, the 28 year old German golfer has been one of the strongest with the longer clubs, hitting 84/112 fairways and 108/144 Greens in Regulation (plus 7 of the Par 5 greens in sub-regulation), although he seems to have struggled a little with the short game around the greens, scrambling for Pars just 16/36 times (including 4/13 Sand Saves). As we begin the week, the 10 time European Tour winner sits in 25th on the Race to Dubai.

Francesco MOLINARI

Francesco Molinari is enjoying a lucrative Final Series, with finishes of 2nd and 21st from the China events. Looking at his Genworth Statistics for the period, the 30 year old Italian golfer really excelled in week one, but surprisingly the long game seemed a bit off in week two. When combining the two events though, he produced the best scrambling figures of all the players (32/47 up and downs for Par, which is 68.1%) as well as the best Par 3 Scoring average of 2.91. As we begin the week, the three-time European Tour winner sits in 13th position on the Race to Dubai (note it is also Francesco’s 31st birthday this Friday which may be a good omen).

Thomas BJÖRN

Thomas Björn arrives to compete over The Montgomerie Maxx Royal off the back of 5th and 39th place finishes in China. Looking at his Genworth Statistics for the two events, the 42 year old Great Dane produced some excellent long game figures in week one (76.8% for Driving Accuracy together with 73.6% for Greens in Regulation), but he seemed to struggle a little with the putter in week two (ranking quite low for each of the official Genworth Putting categories). Overall, the 14 time European Tour winner is moving along steadily in 9th position on the Race to Dubai.

Peter UIHLEIN

Peter Uihlein has produced some brilliant golf over the tail end of the season with two runner-up finishes just prior to The Final Series, from which he has then gone onto finish 5th and 55th in China. Looking at his Genworth Statistics for those two events, the 24 year old talent from the United States has produced some contrasting figures - on the one hand ranking 2nd for Driving Distance (with a huge 301 yards off the tee) but on the other hand holing out the most shots from off the greens (6 in total over the eight rounds). As we begin the week, Peter sits in 11th position on the Race to Dubai.

Genworth
Ambassador

Pablo LARRAZÁBAL

Genworth Ambassador Pablo Larrazábal is returning to form following a poor mid-season by his high standards, with three top ten finishes from his last four starts. Looking at his Genworth Statistics from the first Final Series event in China (where he finished 5th), the 30 year old Spanish golfer was strong in each department of the game, driving the ball accurately, hitting plenty of Greens in Regulation, scrambling well and holing plenty of putts. As we begin the week, Pablo sits in 31st position on the Race to Dubai, but don’t be surprised to see this momentum golfer up there once again.

Tiger WOODS

World number one Tiger Woods arrives to compete in this week’s Turkish Airlines Open presented by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture off the back of a month or so away from the biggest stage (although last week he battled with Rory McIlroy in The Match at Mission Hills in China). Overall, it has been an excellent year for the 37 year old megastar from the United States, racking up another five PGA Tour wins to make it 79 in total (just three shy of Sam Snead’s all time record) - keeping that progression back towards his best. Below are Tiger’s 2013 Genworth Season Statistics from qualifying European Tour events (played over the very toughest of schedules).
