Thunderstorms once again interrupted play at the Maybank Malaysian Open, meaning Round 2 will be completed in the early hours of Saturday morning. Kiradech Aphibarnrat is performing well out on the course and may well end up in front at the half way stage, but Charl Schwartzel and Ashun Wu are the current leaders in the club house with 135 (-9) totals. We analyse how they did it.
Charl SCHWARTZEL -9
Aside from a couple of mistakes towards the end of a hot and draining day, Charl Schwartzel is starting to stamp his authority over the tournament. Looking at his Genworth Statistics, the 28 year old South African has hit 20/28 fairways and 27/36 greens. His strategy on the Par 3 holes has been excellent, hitting the green in regulation on all eight of them played so far. But it is his Par 5 play that really stands out. Charl has hit the green in sub-regulation (two shots) on four of the eight Par 5 holes on the way to converting one eagle and six birdies for a 4.00 average.

Ashun WU -9
Ashun Wu has managed 17/28 fairways and 27/36 greens over the first two days, but his recovery play has been astonishing. The 27 year old golfer from China is 9/9 for the Genworth Scrambles statistic and he has single putted 18 times already. Like Charl Schwartzel though, Ashun has also made a couple of mistakes, with 3-putt bogeys on the 14th hole in Round 1 and the 6th hole in Round 2. The Malaysian heat is most definitely affecting the focus of the players from time to time.
