Garcia promises more to come

Sergio Garcia hopes to continue his fantastic recent form at this week’s Open de España, but insists he has still not reached the peak of his powers.

The World Number Seven started the 2014 season with a runner-up finish at the Nedbank Golf Challenge and has since won in Thailand and Qatar, registered top-ten finishes in the Honda Classic and WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship and finished third in Houston and at Sawgrass last week.

But despite those impressive statistics, the 34 year old insists there is more to come as he prepares to tee up on home soil at PGA Catalunya Resort.

“I’m excited to be back in Spain and playing the Spanish Open, so hopefully we can have another good week here,” said Garcia.

“The course is in great shape; it’s really, really nice. The weather looks like it is supposed to be good too so hopefully we will all enjoy it.

“I feel okay, but obviously there are still things that I need to get better at.”

While many in the field may be intimidated by the 11-time European Tour winner’s claims of better to come, compatriot Miguel Angel Jiménez is unlikely to be one of them.

The evergreen 50 year old, who extended his record as The European Tour’s oldest winner in December, has been revelling in his victory on Champions Tour Tour debut three weeks ago.

“I’ve had three weeks off since which is very nice,” said Jiménez. “This is a beautiful golf course and a nice place to start.”
