"I am thrilled to once again play in the Open de España, especially with it being at PGA Catalunya Resort. The venue’s facilities, including its Stadium Course, are spectacular, and it is where we opened our first Junior Golf Academy, in collaboration with Fundación Sergio Garcia,” said Garcia.

The 2002 Open de España champion finished joint 12th last year in his first appearance since 2003 and will arrive in Catalonia in good form having won the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters in January, before finishing ninth at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in Arizona and third in the Shell Houston Open on the US PGA Tour.

Garcia’s presence at this year’s event is only the second time he has played in Spain’s national Open in recent years.

The Castellón-born player continued: “I'm sure it will be a great week for golf in Spain and I hope the public will enjoy coming to watch us play."

Five of Garcia’s 11 European Tour title have been on Spanish soil. He has also been on four winning European Ryder Cup teams (2002, 2004, 2006 and 2012).
