Future stars get into the swing in Seville

As we celebrate 40 years of The European Tour and a century of Spanish Open golf a team of local PGA professionals are trying to uncover their nation’s next top talent.

Working in partnership with Nike Golf, the Ryder Cup European Development Trust and The European Tour, Provision Golf is giving bespoke tuition to the galleries here at the Reale Seguros Open de España courtesy of the Spanish PGA in an effort to grow the game.

Situated opposite the putting green company Director and qualified PGA Professional Konrad Brochocki watched on as the latest crop of students is introduced to golf.

He said: “We are giving some of these guys their first ever taste of the sport and what better place than at a European Tour event. Spain is a great golfing country with a rich history and many top stars in the past, so interest is really high.”

All are welcome to try out the eye-catching inflatable nets this week, but Brochocki is keen to emphasise the impact the game can have on the younger generation. Numerous groups of up to 40 local school children are booked in to take part and it is this emphasis on getting young people into the game that really excites the Provision Golf Director.

“Getting the kids involved is a key thing, it really is. The nets interest people and bring them over and from there, with the help of the local PGA professionals, wherever we go we are able to make golf a fun game which plenty can enjoy.

“Everyone taking part not only receives tips on their swing during their ten minutes with the pro but they are also sent an email of their technique on video with analysis, tips and contact details if they wish to seek further tuition.”

Roberto Urpi is one of the qualified Spanish PGA professionals involved this week, and having helped out three years ago he could not wait to get involved again.

“We are trying to promote the game in Spain and get young people into golf”, said the professional of 15 years. “We are not just teaching them about the swing we are showing them everything, like how the players warm up and the etiquette of the game.

“If the weather is good then we expect to have lots more kids coming down and they should learn a lot from the experience.”

Provision Golf plan to attend ten events in 2012, the next one being the Nordea Masters where they will once again be working with local professionals, this time from the PGA of Sweden.
