Furyk pulls clear at Firestone

Jim Furyk tripled his lead over Louis Oosthuizen during the final round front nine of the World Golf Championship-Bridgestone Invitational.

With American Furyk just one ahead of the Masters Tournament runner-up overnight, Oosthuizen immediately eradicated the deficit with a 15 foot birdie at the first.

The South African was level for just a seconds though, as Furyk followed him in from five feet before both players birdied the long second.

Former US Open Champion Furyk completed a hattrick of gains on the next, and Oosthuizen’s problems were compounded when he missed a five footer at the fifth and bogeyed.

Furyk had his first bogey of the day at the sixth, and Oosthuizen looked in trouble too but the former Open Champion parred from 12 feet to reduce the gap to two.

He was not so lucky at the ninth, however, missing the green with his approach and failing to get up and down.

On 13 under Furyk was three clear of his playing partner, with Keegan Bradley a shot further back in third the week before he defends his US PGA Championship title.

Furyk headed for home with four straight pars, and Oosthuizen was unable to close the gap despite a birdie at the short 12th, as he had already hit another wayward approach at the tenth and bogeyed.

Bradley, however, was making a real surge. The 26 year old birdied the tenth and 11th then holed a nine footer at the 14th to reach five under for the day, just one behind Furyk.
