Fubon opens its doors in style

The beginning of the second edition of the Fubon Senior Open was marked with a glamourous Pro-Am tournament as the stars of the European Senior Tour begin their quest to claim the penultimate tournament of the season in Taiwan.

Andy Stubbs, Managing Director of European Senior Tour, together with Fubon Bank officials during the opening ceremony ahead of the Fubon Senior Open played at Miramar Golf and Country Club

The main sponsors, Fubon financial, proved wonderful hosts as the Pro-Am brought players and sponsors together for a day of fun and top quality golf.

The real business kicks off on Friday as two-time winners this season, Gary Wolstenholme and Tim Thelen, lead a strong field as they attempt to halt the title defence of last year’s home winner Chien Soon Lu.

Wolstenholme is paired with 2010 John Jacobs Trophy winner Boonchu Ruangkit of Thailand alongside Taiwan’s Hung-ta Chang while another winner on the tour this season, England’s Paul Wesselingh, plays alongside five-time European Tour champion Mike Harwood and Frankie Minoza of the Philippines.

Other Senior Tour stars in the field include five-time winners Gordon J Brand of England and Delroy Cambridge of Jamaica while Bill Longmuir is searching for his ninth career win on the tour.

The man Cambridge plays alongside on the opening day, Mike Cunning, will also be confident of his own chances on Asian soil having won the Asian Tour Order of Merit in 1998 and heads to Taiwan on the back of his best performance this season, a share of eighth position in the French Riviera Masters.

The Fubon Senior Open is the last event before the Senior Tour season concludes at the MCB Tour Championship in Mauritius from December 7-9.
