Frittelli proud of closing 65

Defending champion Dylan Frittelli was proud of his final-round performance after shooting a flawless 65 to finish in a tie for fifth at the Afrasia Bank Mauritius Open at Anahita.

The South African's chances of matching last year's victory looked very slim after scores of 69, 70 and 68 in his opening three rounds left him seven shots off the lead heading into day four.

But he showed exactly what he is capable of on Sunday, firing seven birdies - including four in a row from the 12th - to finish the tournament on 16 under par, just four strokes behind winner Kurt Kitayama.

After his round, Frittelli said: "I was proud of that.

"It was a bit of a struggle on the first three days to keep the bogeys off the card but I still had a lot of birdies as well.

"Today was finally some consistent golf that I could be proud of.

"I finally made some putts. I still had 30 putts today to shoot seven under - that's kind of crazy.

"If I had someone who could putt well for me I probably could have shot 61 or 62.

"I was happy to play well on the back nine and have a good feeling coming in.

"If you had given me a top five I definitely would have taken it before the tournament.

"Credit to the other guys, it's a good strong field and some guys have made loads of birdies."
