Fritelli flying high after eagle

Dylan Frittelli punctuated a fine opening nine holes at Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge with an eagle three at the 15th to set the early pace in France at five under par alongside England’s Jason Barnes.

Fritelli picked up his first Challenge Tour victory last month at the Karnten Golf Open presented by Mazda, and he showed more of that fine form on the opening morning at Golf PGA France du Vaudreuil with three birdies from the tenth to start.

A bogey followed at the par four 14th, his fifth, but an eagle at the next, followed by another birdie a hole later, saw him ascend to the top of the board with Barnes, who made five birdies in the first half of his round having started from the first.

Francois Calmels, who has already won twice on the Challenge Tour in 2013, reeled off three birdies of his own from the tenth, with a further red figure also coming at 15 to be a shot back and in a tie for third.

He is alongside Norway’s Knut Borsheim, who shared the 54 hole lead last week in Tuscany en route to a second placed finish behind Marco Crespi, while Raymond Russell is also on the same mark having been forced out of the Pro-Am on Wednesday through illness.

European Tour winner Michael Jonzon is going well in the early stages in France, he’s two under par for his first nine holes, as is 2010 Challenge Tour Number One Alvaro Velasco.
