Jeremy Freiburghaus is targeting a maiden European Challenge Tour title as he prepares to tee it up in this week’s Swiss Challenge at Golf Saint Apollinaire.
The Swiss has enjoyed a fantastic year on the Road to Mallorca and he currently occupies seventh position on the Rankings courtesy of two runner-up finishes and five further top tens, however he is still searching for that elusive first Challenge Tour victory.
“It’s lovely to be playing near my home and It’s nice to be around Swiss people,” he said. “I played at home this year at the Omega European Masters and I really enjoyed it, so I am looking forward to this week.
“Hopefully I can use home advantage to get my first win out here because I have finished second twice this season, but I am desperate to win a title. One of my goals at the start of the season was to win a Challenge Tour event and I still have a few opportunities to achieve that. If I could choose to win a tournament, then it would definitely be the Swiss Challenge.”
The 26-year-old, who graduated to the Challenge Tour in 2021 after winning twice on the Pro Golf Tour, is in prime position to secure DP World Tour playing privileges for 2023 with just five events left to play.
“It’s looking pretty promising for next season,” he said. “I just need to play well in the remaining events and secure my DP World Tour card.
“The rough is pretty juicy this year and the greens are awesome. I think it’s going to be a great test and the facilities look brilliant. I have family, friends and my sponsors coming to watch so I will have a lot of support this week.”
Freiburghaus will be joined at Golf Saint Apollinaire this week by former champions Alexander Knappe, who won the 2016 Swiss Challenge, and countryman Joel Girrbach who triumphed at the 2017 edition.
The Swiss Challenge will get under way at 8:00am local time, with Freiburghaus teeing it up alongside Knappe and Frenchman Clément Sordet at 8:30am.
