Francesco Molinari has been named Hilton Golfer of the Month for May after his victory at the BMW PGA Championship – his fifth European Tour title.
The Italian claimed a massive 62 per cent of the fan vote – the biggest winning percentage so far this year – to secure the monthly honour, ahead of Spaniard Adrian Otaegui who took 17 per cent of the vote.
May saw Molinari blossom into form as he battled past a star-studded BMW PGA Championship field, including former World Number One and Wentworth champion Rory McIlroy.
In the first Rolex Series event of the year, the 35 year old carded three successive rounds in the 60s – 67-66-68 – to add to his opening day 70, as he charged to victory by two shots ahead of McIlroy.
After he opened his BMW PGA Championship account with a bogey on the first hole, the two-time Ryder Cup winner only carded one more bogey all week before he went blemish-free over the weekend to seal victory.
Otaegui was runner-up for the May away after clinching his second European Tour title at the inaugural Belgian Knockout by beating Benjamin Hebert by two shots in the final.
Fans who cast their vote for Hilton Golfer of the month are automatically entered into a fantastic prize draw, with one lucky voter winning a two-night stay at any Hilton hotel, anywhere in the world.
