Scotland’s Richie Ramsay birdied the first four holes of his final round to move into a share of the lead at the NH Collection Open.
The two-time European Tour winner raced to eight under par and joined Italy’s Marco Crespi at the top of the leaderboard.
Crespi, who came through Qualifying School at the 11th attempt in November, birdied the first to pull level with overnight leader Matthew Nixon.
Nixon then bogeyed the third to drop behind, but 30 year old Ramsay came charging through the field.
Ramsay and Crespi were one ahead of Nixon and Chile’s Felipe Aguilar as an exciting finish beckoned at La Reserva de Sotogrande Club de Golf.
The 24 year old Nixon, whose best European Tour finish to date came when he was second in Russia last season, got his dropped shot straight back at the long fourth.
But that was only enough for a share of second with Ramsay, as Crespi – whose only top-ten finish to date came at the South African Open in November – picked up a stroke at the fifth to reach nine under.
Aguilar and home favourite Adrian Otaegui remained tied for fourth on seven under.
