Flying Dutchman Besseling takes Finnish lead

A flawless four under par 67 propelled Wil Besseling to the top of the leaderboard in the second round of the Finnish Challenge.

The Dutchman racked up three birdies in his first nine holes having teed off from the tenth, and added another on the way in to set the clubhouse lead at six under par, two shots ahead of three players – Matt Haines, Brooks Koepka and Roland Steiner – who were all among the afternoon starters at Kytäjä Golf.

“Four under par with no bogeys is always nice,” said 26 Besseling. “I didn’t make any mistakes, which was the same yesterday. I hit a lot of greens and was never in trouble. I played intelligently. It’s a long course and there was a little bit of wind this morning, which I think will pick up this afternoon.

“I’m happy to be on top of the leaderboard. Last week in the English Challenge I started off well but finished badly, so hopefully I can turn that around this time and finish it off nicely.

“The game is coming along well and the scores are getting better, so there are plenty of reasons to be very positive at the moment.”

Swede Bjorn Åkesson shared the first round lead at four under, but carded a four over par 75 in round two to slip back.
