Tommy Fleetwood has confirmed he will join his Ryder Cup partner Francesco Molinari in the field for the BMW PGA Championship – the fourth Rolex Series event of 2019 - at Wentworth Club, from September 19-22.
The pair created history last September when they won all four of their matches together at The 2018 Ryder Cup at Le Golf National in France, becoming the first European pair to claim a clean sweep.
Their record-breaking exploits earned them the nickname ‘Moliwood’ from fans on social media and with the BMW PGA Championship now the first counting event for 2020 Ryder Cup qualification, the formidable duo will be hoping their quest to be part of Padraig Harrington’s European Team for Whistling Straits gets off to a strong start.
Fleetwood, who last month hosted the Betfred British Masters at Hillside, won the European Tour’s Race to Dubai in 2017 and already has one Rolex Series victory to his name, having won the Open de France the same year.
Molinari succeeded him as Race to Dubai champion last year after his victory in the 2018 BMW PGA Championship sparked a memorable season which included lifting the Claret Jug at The Open Championship in Carnoustie.
Looking forward to the @bmwpga and joining my better half @F_Molinari at Wentworth this September....#BMWPGAhttps://t.co/rAsOWppdwY pic.twitter.com/gmFvtFMWSt

Fleetwood is now hoping his name will be engraved just below his close friend’s on the prestigious BMW PGA Championship trophy, whilst he is also looking forward to having another chance to win on home soil after finishing tied eighth in the Betfred British Masters.
“It’s always a great week playing in front of the British fans at Wentworth,” said Fleetwood. “The BMW PGA Championship is one of our most prestigious events and with the date change this year, I think the course will be in even better condition and we should have one of the strongest fields we’ve had in recent memory.
“It’s already a massive week being part of the Rolex Series and now it is the first event in the 2020 Ryder Cup qualification campaign, that adds another dimension. Having been part of the team last year, I would love to get off a good start and obviously winning a huge event in England would be the perfect way to do that.”
Former World Number One Justin Rose will also be part of the world class field at Wentworth in September, with further names to be added over the coming weeks. In addition to the golf, fans will be able to enjoy a range of musical acts, including Rudimental, who headline the Slingsby Showstage on Saturday September 21 after the conclusion of the third round.
