Tommy Fleetwood set his sights on finally lifting the trophy at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship after firing an opening 64 at Carnoustie Golf Links.
The Englishman holds the course record at the notoriously tough Open Championship venue and he took just one more blow than that 2017 effort to sit two shots off the lead after round one in Scotland.
He has two runner up finishes and three other top fives from nine appearances at this event and after making another good start, he was firmly focused on claiming European Tour win number six.
"It's a course that I really like," He said. "I love playing here, a lot of shots fit my eye so I always enjoy coming back to play.
"I play well on the courses, I feel like I do a lot of things well on these links courses.
"I do always enjoy coming back and it's always an event where I feel like I can put up a good challenge and I've had a lot of good results but I've also played nine times and not won it yet so I want to put that right."
Fleetwood was part of the European Ryder Cup team defeated 19-9 last week but rather than feeling fatigued, he insists the biennial spectacular has given him more motivation to do well this week.
"I felt very in control and it's a perfect week after the Ryder Cup, I would say," he said.
"I enjoy playing here. I have a lot of friends here. So I'm sort of in a good head space and my swing felt great today. I putted really well.
"In the end, six under was like just a cruise, which is just one of those days that you really, really enjoy.
"I think last week was a very motivating week and I enjoyed the energy that I got from my team-mates and the Ryder Cup in general and everything that it brought."
