The Staysure Tour is in Germany for the WINSTONgolf Senior Open this week. Here are five things to know ahead of the action in Vorbeck.
Nick the man for the Job
Nick Job will surpass Dennis O’Sullivan’s record of 306 appearances on the over-50s circuit, having tied with the Irishman at the European Tour Destinations Senior Classic in Spain last week.
The Englishman, who has five Staysure Tour title to his name, will set a new record for the most appearances on the Staysure Tour when he tees it up in Germany this week.
Langer back at Vorbeck
Ten-time Senior Major winner Bernhard Langer returns to Vorbeck for the eighth edition of the WINSTONgolf Senior Open. Langer has played in the event on three previous occasions, finishing inside the top ten each time.
In 2012’s inaugural edition, the German finished in a share of eighth place, and then missed out on glory in 2014 as Paul Wesselingh beat him on the third hole of a play-off. Two years later, Langer was in contention to win his first over-50s title on home soil, but came up just shy, finishing one stroke behind winner Andrew Oldcorn.
Dodd to do the double
Stephen Dodd won the WINSTONgolf Senior Open on his 52nd birthday last year, and after celebrating his 53rd birthday on Sunday, he will be aiming to defend his title this week.
It was the Welshman’s third Staysure Tour title and third victory in successive seasons following rounds of 64-66-71 for a six shot victory.
Return to WINSTONopen course
WINSTONgolf, venue for the WINSTONgolf Senior Open, has two championship courses and following three season on the WINSTONlinks course, the event will move back to the WINSTONopen course.
The tournament was last held on the WINSTONopen course in 2015, where Pedro Linhart claimed his debut Staysure Tour title, holding off the challenge of Barry Lane to win by three strokes.
Senior Open preparations
The WINSTONgolf Senior Open will be the precursor to The Senior Open Presented by Rolex, which takes place at Royal Lytham & St Annes next week.
Over 30 players will contest the WINSTONgolf Senior Open title in Vorbeck before making the trip to Lancashire, where the fifth Senior Major on the Staysure Tour will be fought for.
