The second tournament of the three event final series MCB Tour Championship gets under way this week. Here are five things to keep a look out for at the MCB Tour Championship – Seychelles.
Picture perfect
The Constance Lemuria course, host of the MCB Tour Championship – Seychelles and part of the European Tour Destinations international network, is one of the world’s most picturesque golf courses, featuring several iconic holes.
The spectacular par three 15th overlooks the Anse Georgette beach and the crystal blue waters of the Indian Ocean. The par five 18th sees players tee off from the top of the hill with views towards main Seychelles island of Mahe.
Play-off redemption
Current Staysure Tour Order of Merit leader Phillip Price was beaten in a play-off at the inaugural event last year. The Welshman made birdie on the 18th while Roger Chapman drained a 30 foot eagle putt to seal victory on the first extra hole.
Price has been the most consistent player on the over 50s circuit this year and believes the play-off defeat at 2018’s season-finale spurred him on for 2019. The 2002 Ryder Cup hero will be hoping to avenge last year’s result, and in doing so, could all but confirm himself as the John Jacobs Trophy winner with one event to play.
Indian Ocean Swing
The MCB Tour Championship was extended this year with the addition of Madagascar, forming the three event final series. At the conclusion of the three events the King of the Swing will be crowned for the top-performing-player across the three events.
Roger Chapman picked up the trophy last year after winning in Seychelles and finishing third in Mauritius. Barry Lane currently leads the way following his MCB Tour Championship – Madagascar triumph, however, it is all to play for with two events left.
Fight to the end
This week is the penultimate event on the 2019 Staysure Tour International Schedule and with 108 holes left to play, the battle to be named Staysure Tour Number One is going down to the wire.
Price currently leads the Order of Merit and will be hoping a win all but seals his status as the 2019 John Jacobs Trophy winner. However, David Shacklady, who occupies second place, and last week’s winner Lane will want to advance their chances of lifting the season-long title.
With the MCB Tour Championship – Seychelles one of the most lucrative events on the circuit and only 720.7 points separating top from third, it is all to play for in Praslin.
Buggies are back
Players will once again be allowed to use buggies during the tournament rounds from hole 13 to 18, due to the exceptionally hilly layout.
The final six holes at the par 70 Constance Lemuria course follow the natural contours of the hilly terrain before the 18th heads back down to the clubhouse, with the par three holes played from elevated tees.
