The DP World Tour makes its first trip of the season to Germany this week as Green Eagle Golf Courses plays host to the 2022 Porsche European Open. Here are your five things to know.
Armitage returns to scene of maiden win
There were few more popular winners on Tour last season than Marcus Armitage and the Englishman is back to defend his title in Hamburg.
He started the final day four shots off the lead but carded a brilliant 65 and then had to wait and see if anyone would catch his eight under total.
Matthew Southgate was just one back stood on the tee at the par-five 18th but when he found the water, Armitage was left to reflect on a highly emotional victory.
“When I had a practice round the other day I've never lost so many balls in a practice round in my life," he said. "To be stood here being Porsche European Open champion is pretty cool.
“I'm an emotional guy, I'm struggling to keep a lid on it here. I was just trying to breathe and be calm, not touch my phone because that will be going berserk.
“But then you start thinking about everybody at home like my fiancée. 20 years ago I lost my mum and I've dreamt about this since that day, being a winner, and you have days where you think it might not happen but I just stuck at it."
A successful defence for the Bullet would also make it five English winners in a row at this event.
The skipper is in town
Henrik Stenson tees it up this week in his first regular DP World Tour event since being appointed Ryder Cup Captain in March.
He will have his own ambitions as he looks to become the third Swede to lift the trophy but he will also be keeping a close eye on plenty of potential members of his 2023 team.
Tommy Fleetwood has been a member of the last two Ryder Cup teams, while Thorbjørn Olesen was a winner alongside him in 2018.
Recent winners Victor Perez and Adri Arnaus will also be looking to impress the captain as they seek a debut in the biennial spectacular.
U.S. Open Championship Qualifying Series concludes
This week's event is the last of four which make up the U.S. Open Qualifying Series.
It started at the Betfred British Masters hosted by Danny Willett with points also on offer at the Soudal Open and Dutch Open.
On Sunday evening, the top ten points earners from across those four events will have earned a place in the field at The Country Club in Brookline.
Home favourite Marcel Schneider currently holds the final spot and will be looking for another good week and a second Major Championship appearance.
The G4D Tour is back
Ten of the world's best disability golfers are taking to the fairways at Green Eagle for the second G4D Tour event of the season, the G4D @ Porsche European Open.
G4D @ Betfred British Masters hosted by Danny Willett champion Kipp Popert is in the field, along with World Number One Brendan Lawlor.
There are a total of seven events across the season, finishing at the G4D @ DP World Tour Championship, Dubai.
“We are in the environment of the Tour professionals around lots of cameras and with big grandstands,” Popert said ahead of this week's event. “It’s a really good way of developing the game and showcasing what we as disability golfers can do.”
Porsche lead the way
This week sees the return of Leader's Car, where at the end of each round the leader gets to drive back to their accommodation in a Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo with a decal created by Hamburg-based designed Flemming Pinck. The design is inspired by the 18th at the formidable Porsche Nord Course and also includes the triple bunkers seen on the closing hole.
Thomas Detry and Armitage both had that honour as solo leaders at the end of rounds last year, but who will have the trophy in the passenger seat next to them when they drive off on Sunday?
