Ahead of the Senior Tour’s return to the French capital for the second edition of the Paris Legends Championship, here are five golfers to watch at the host venue of The 2018 Ryder Cup this week…
Magnus P Atlevi
With four events of the season left to play, the defending champion Magnus P Atlevi will be staking his claim for the John Jacobs Trophy as he heads to Le Golf National.
The Swede won by two strokes here last year, securing his first title in 18 years as he went on to finish second on the Senior Tour Order of Merit earning the title of 2016 Rookie of the Year.
Atlevi has already equalled the number of top ten finishes he earned in 2016 with four events still to go, finishing sixth at The Senior Open Presented by Rolex and Scottish Senior Open, tied fifth at the Travis Perkins Masters and in a share of third at the Sharjah Senior Golf Masters presented by Shurooq.
John Daly
Two-time Major Champion John Daly returns to Europe to make his fourth appearance on the continent this season. The man known as ‘Wild Thing’ teed it up at The Senior Open at Royal Porthcawl and then returned in August to tee it up at Made In Denmark and the D+D REAL Czech Masters - Daly secured his best finish on the European Tour since 2012 as he finished tied for tenth at Himmerland.
The 51 year old also won his first over-50s title earlier this season as he won the Insperity Invitational on the PGA TOUR Champions circuit, his first victory since 2004.
Clark Dennis
A team-mate of John Daly’s at University of Arkanasas, Clark Dennis has made great strides in his first season on the European Senior Tour.
The American, who earned his card at Senior Tour Qualifying School earlier this year, has been one of the most consistent players this season. In addition to his win at the Senior Italian Open presented by Villaverde Resort, Dennis has finished second, third, fourth and fifth this season.
After breaking his duck earlier this month, Dennis will be aiming for his first victory over 54 holes, as the Senior Italian Open was reduced to 36 due to inclement weather – he did however best Peter Fowler, one of the Senior Tour’s most formidable players, in a play-off at Golf Club Udine.
Philip Golding
Twice a winner on the European Senior Tour this season, Philip Golding secured the biggest victory of his professional career on the fairways of Le Golf National.
The Englishman won the HNA Open de France in 2003, finishing one stroke ahead of compatriot David Howell, to take home €416,660 – double his previous career earnings.
Having emerged victorious at both the Swiss Seniors Open and Travis Perkins Masters, Golding knows what it takes to win on the Senior Tour.
Jarmo Sandelin
Quickly establishing himself as one of the Tour’s most eccentric characters, Jarmo Sandelin is determined to secure a first over-50s victory this season. The Swede joined the Senior Tour ranks earlier this year and has found consistency, finishing inside the top 20 in all seven regular events this season.
Admittedly unable to find his rhythm in opening rounds earlier this year, the former Ryder Cup player has made steady improvements since his debut in Finland on June. He finished tied fifth at the Senior Italian Open, and even moved to a share of the lead before the third and final round was abandoned due to rain.
