Ahead of the European Senior Tour’s return to Holland for the first edition of the Dutch Senior Masters, here are five golfers to watch on the fairways this week…
Magnus P Atlevi
The Swede made a valiant defence of his Paris Legends Championship crown last week at Le Golf National, finishing in a share of fifth place, and Atlevi is currently fifth on the Senior Tour Order of Merit.
Earning the title of Rookie of the Year in 2016, Atlevi finished second on the Order of Merit and sits just €30,000 behind current leader Chris Williams. With three events of the season left, it is still all to play for in the hunt for the John Jacobs Trophy.
Atlevi has finished inside the top six in four of his last six events, including The Senior Open Presented by Rolex.
Jarmo Sandelin
The ever-popular Swede has continued his impressive form on the European Senior Tour, backing up his tied fifth result at the Senior Italian Open presented by Villaverde Resort by finishing tied seventh at the Paris Legends Championship.
Sandelin recovered form during his final round, bouncing back from a five over par front nine to finish just one stroke over par and claim a share of seventh place with Stephen Dodd.
Since turning 50 earlier this year, Sandelin has five top ten finishes to his name and a further three top-20 results.
Paul McGinley
The victorious 2014 Ryder Cup Captain made an impressive start to his over-50s career, finishing tied tenth on his debut at the WINSTONgolf Senior Open.
The four-time European Tour winner has amassed earnings of more than €11 million and has 80 further top ten finishes on his European resume.
The Dubliner has been a runner-up twice on Dutch soil, finishing second at both the 2004 and 2008 KLM Opens.
Philip Golding
Twice a winner on the European Senior Tour this season, Golding also finished an impressive solo third at last week’s Paris Legends Championship. Familiar with the course, having won the HNA Open de France there in 2003, Golding produced superb rounds of 69-70-68 to finish nine under par at the host venue of The 2018 Ryder Cup.
Golding is third on the Senior Tour Order of Merit, with just €20,000 separating him and Chris Williams.
James Kingston
One of the most consistent players on the Senior Tour, South Africa’s James Kingston has finished no lower than tied 14thin his last four regular events.
Kingston finished tied fifth at the WINSTONgolf Senior Open, and then tied seventh across the tricky Duke’s Course at Woburn. After the final round of the Senior Italian Open was abandoned, he finished tied 14thacross 36 holes and then finished in a share of fifth again at last week’s Paris Legends Championship.
Kingston has finished inside the top ten eight times in 19 events on the Senior Tour, a strike rate of nearly 50 per cent.
