Five in focus: Costa Blanca Benidorm Senior Golf Masters

Ahead of the MCB Tour Championship in Mauritius and Seychelles, the Staysure Tour heads to Spain for the Costa Blanca Benidorm Senior Golf Masters. Here are five players to watch ahead of the final event on European soil in 2018.

Miguel Ángel Jiménez

Miguel Ángel Jiménez

Miguel Ángel Jiménez won his maiden Staysure Tour title at The Senior Open presented by Rolex in July and has impressed throughout the year.

The Spaniard, who finished fifth at the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship and runner-up at the US Senior Open Championship, returns to Spain to play on home soil for the first time since he came second at the Open de España in 2015, having won the event 12 months earlier.

Can he record his second Staysure Tour win of the season and delight the home crowd to cap off a fine season on the over-50’s circuit?

Santiago Luna

Another Spaniard looking to impress on home soil is Santiago Luna, winner of the Farmfoods European Senior Masters.

His victory at Forest of Arden was his second in successive seasons after winning the European Tour Properties Senior Classic in Finland. A home return could give Luna a boost to clinch his fifth title on the Staysure Tour.

Gary Orr

The last time a player won three times in a single Staysure Tour season was Colin Montgomerie in 2015, but Gary Orr now has the chance to reach that feat, having claimed the Scottish Senior Open and Paris Legends Championship.

Orr triumphed in his last two Staysure Tour events and will hope to make it three in a row when he tees it up in Benidorm.

Markus Brier

Markus Brier has recorded back-to-back runner-up finishes on the Staysure Tour, as he goes in search of his maiden victory in his debut season on the over-50’s circuit.

The Austrian joined the Staysure Tour in July and has earned almost €100,000 in his nine events. Could the Costa Blanca Benidorm Senior Golf Masters be the debut victory for him?

Stephen Dodd

The last time Stephen Dodd played in Spain was seven years ago at the Andalucía Masters on the European Tour where he finished ninth. A year beforehand he claimed sixth position at the Open de España and five years before that he took fifth place at the same event.

The Welshman has enjoyed a fruitful season, once again, on the Staysure Tour, winning the WINSTONgolf Senior Open and recording 13 top 20 results from 13 regular events to sit second on the Order of Merit. Can he record another impressive result on Spanish soil at the final Staysure Tour event to be held on European soil this season?
