Fitzpatrick edges ahead in Sweden

Matthew Fitzpatrick leaped to the top of the leaderboard early on day two of the Nordea Masters as he turned in 32 to open up a one-shot lead over Mikko Ilonen and Marc Warren at Bro Hof Slott Golf Club.

Warren had been part of the six-way tie for the lead coming into round two after an opening 67 and birdied four of his first six holes on Friday to open up a two-shot advantage.

But a double-bogey on the 18th - his ninth - coupled with a Fitzpatrick birdie on the same hole saw the Englishman establish a narrow lead at eight under.

The Scot had birdied the tenth and three in a row from the 13th before a poor drive and third shot over the green saw him find trouble, while Fitzpatrick was flawless on his first nine, picking up shots on the tenth, 12th, 15th and 18th.

Ilonen - winner here in 2013 - also started on the back nine and he bogeyed the 11th before bouncing back with gains on the 12th, 15th, 17th and 18th.

Nicolas Colsaerts was then at six under alongside defending champion Alex Noren, with the big-hitting Belgian adding an eagle on the first to his birdies on the 12th and 15th.

Noren had birdies on the tenth, 13th and first in his first 11 holes.

Joint overnight leaders Clément Berardo, Sébastien Gros, Scott Henry and Andrew Johnston were then all among the later starters at five under, with the other member of that leading group Florian Fritsch two over for the day after seven holes.
