Oliver Fisher has set a top 60 place in The Race to Dubai as his next career target after claiming his first European Tour victory at the Czech Open last weekend.
The win, which came in his 174th European Tour appearance, lifted the Englishman from 224th place in The Race to Dubai up to 75th spot, with €271,317.
The 22 year old had struggled to emulate the form that helped him to a career-best 51st place in the final year standings in 2008 and had a particularly frustrating season prior to his victory, making just one cut in 21 tournaments between last December and July of this year.
He then made two successive cuts at the Nordea Masters and the Irish Open presented by Discover Ireland last month before his maiden professional win at Prosper Golf Resort, in Čeladná, Czech Republic last Sunday gave his year a fresh impetus.
“I hadn’t really given the Dubai World Championship a second thought until now, because my form so far this season hasn’t been the best, to say the very least,” said Fisher, who became the youngest Walker Cup player in history in 2005.
“But now that I’ve got my first win under my belt, which was the target at the start of the year, I’ve got to set myself new goals.
“I’ve got a realistic chance of finishing in the top 60 of The Race to Dubai now, so that’s definitely on my radar. It’s a massive event, so I’d love to play in it for the first time.”
As a result of some prominent performances in the Czech Republic, there were two new entries within The Race to Dubai’s top 60, who at the end of the season qualify for the $7,500,000 DUBAI WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP presented by DP World, with Lorenzo Gagli and Richie Ramsey making forward moves.
Italian Gagli moved up nine places to 52nd spot after his tied fifth finish in the Czech Republic, while Ramsey’s tied 12th finish at Prosper Golf Resort shifted the Scotsman up three places in the Race to Dubai to 60th.
