First for Staysure Tour as members allowed to wear shorts in tournament play

Players on the Staysure Tour wore shorts in tournament play for the first time at today’s MCB Tour Championship – Mauritius.

The motion was approved by the Staysure Tour Tournament Committee earlier this year, and a number of players took advantage of this in sweltering conditions of 30 degrees in the Indian Ocean.

“We are always looking at ways to innovate on both the Staysure Tour and the European Tour, and I believe that the decision made by the Tournament Committee is another progressive step,” said David MacLaren, Head of the Staysure Tour.

“Our members have worn shorts during Pro-Ams and practice rounds since 2016, when this was ratified by the European Tour’s Tournament Committee, and the decision made for this week has been widely welcomed among our membership.

“It was nice to see a number of our players embrace this opportunity today. We will gather the opinion of our members after the next two weeks in the Indian Ocean and make any future decisions going forward based on these findings.”
