Luke Donald’s incredible bogey-free run at Jumeirah Golf Estates finally came to an end during the final round of the DP World Tour Championship, but the World Number Two still started better than playing partner Rory McIlroy in Dubai.

The two best players the game has to offer began the day neck-and-neck as they compete for the €1,041,429 winner’s cheque and the final title of The European Tour season.

McIlroy bogeyed the first after pushing his drive on to tree bark and fell two behind when Donald birdied the long second, but then the English star had his first bogey of the tournament on the next.

That came after an incredible 102 holes without dropping a shot on the Earth Course going back to his second round last year.

It put him back to 17 under, one ahead of not only McIlroy, but also South African Louis Oosthuizen, who birdied the opening two holes.
