Fernandez-Castaño nears the summit

Storm began this event in 114thposition in The Race to Dubai and, after opening up a three shot advantage with a second bogey free round on Friday, admitted the pressure of retaining his European Tour card had been playing on his mind.

If the Englishman was nervous, it did not show today as he once again avoided any setbacks at the beginning of his penultimate round.

Five pars kept him at 11 under for the tournament, but Fernandez-Castaño, who won here in 2005, trimmed the lead to one by recording birdies at the second and fifth.

Scott Jamieson was a shot further back, having holed a birdie putt from off the right hand side of the fourth green.

Then came Peter Hanson, one over for the day, and Shiv Kapur at seven under.

Bernd Wiesberger, twice a winner this year and sixth in last week’s Omega European Masters, followed an opening bogey with six birdies. A 65 left him in a tie for eighth at six under.

Richie Ramsay, the champion at Crans-sur-Sierre, also moved to that score with the aid of four birdies.
