Michael Campbell and Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño have moved to the top of the leaderboard at the Quinn Insurance British Masters as the delayed third round approaches the halfway stage.
Further heavy fog at The Belfry had seen more time lost this morning but Spaniard Fernández-Castaño, who was three under after two rounds, reached four under for his round at the halfway stage to go seven under for the tournament.
An eagle at the par five 17th propelled him alongside Campbell of New Zealand.
Campbell was also three under going into this afternoon’s round but four birdies in nine holes from the tenth tee, where he started his round, saw him move ahead of halfway leaders Lee Westwood and Alexander Noren.
Westwood - one of those to have completed their second round yesterday - drove for the green at the par four tenth which was his opening hole. Despite having the length, he was off line and found the water to the left.
That led to a bogey and the rot set in with further dropped shots at the 11th and 12th sending him back to three under for the tournament.
Noren remained on six under having played six holes, along with compatriot Mikael Lundberg who was four under for his third round after 11 holes.
Also six under were England’s Ross Fisher, who had played eight holes, Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand who was approaching the ninth tee, India’s Jeev Milkha Singh and Spaniard Alejandro Cañizares, who was through seven.
It was looking inevitable that the third round would run into the final day.
