Fast start puts Pavon in contention in Portugal

Matthieu Pavon moved within one shot of the lead after making a fast start when the second round of the weather-affected Open de Portugal at Morgado Golf Resort got under way on Friday.

The Frenchman was one under par after nine holes when play was suspended due to thunder and lightning on Thursday afternoon.

And when the first round resumed at 8.30am on Friday, Pavon made four birdies on his back nine to post a bogey-free 68 and sit five shots behind first-round leader Matt Wallace.

Pavon was soon back out on course for his second round, and starting at the tenth tee at 11.30am, he picked up shots at the tenth, 12th, 14th and 16th to get to nine under par.

He sits in a share of second place alongside Sebastian Heisele, one shot behind Englishman Wallace, who carded ten birdies and no bogeys in his 63 on Thursday.

Wallace and Heisele will get their second rounds under way on Friday afternoon.
