After a brilliant second round 66 at the Pon Senior Open, Marc Farry was quick to credit his return to form to two of his European Senior Tour colleagues.
The amiable Frenchman could had nothing but praise for the man who is one shot clear of him on the leaderboard at Winston Golf, Bill Longmuir, as well as the man who will drive home from Northern Germany in a brand new Porsche Panamera after his second round hole in one on the par three seventh, Peter Mitchell.
“I am very happy with the week here so far because the season has been really poor up until now,” explained Farry.
“It has been one of those years where every week there has been a problem with the game but it was never the same problem if you know what I mean.
“One week it would be the driving, then the next it was the putter and then the next it was the chipping and so on and so on. But this week it seems like it is coming together and pretty much under control.
“I have to say that I have had some help from my good friends on the Senior Tour. Bill Longmuir has helped a lot with the chipping and the short game and then Peter Mitchell has been helping with the long game and it seems to be working now.
“We all know this game is just about confidence and once you start to hit better shots then the confidence grows and everything gets better and better. I felt really good today and I think the performance has really helped today. It feels very good to be back near the top of the leaderboard.”
Farry is so pleased to see the light at the end of the tunnel that he genuinely does not care about his final result on Sunday – he is already satisfied with his week’s work in northern Germany and is seeing a positive end to the season.
“I have been a bit upset with myself recently because even though I may not be the best player out here, I really don’t think the performances and results have been good enough. Last week at Woburn I just couldn’t putt or drive the ball; then the week before in Wales was a links course I just never play well on those courses because I hit the ball high.
“Those two weeks are great examples of there just being a new problem every week, so to be up there on the board is great. I don’t care if I win or not tomorrow – I already feel like I have made very good progress this week so if I can go out tomorrow and continue that I will be very happy.
“There are a lot of positives to take from this week already and I am already looking forward to the last few tournaments of the season as a result of that.”
