It’s time for the tenth event in the 2019 Race to Dubai and we liked Australia so much, we decided to stay on a week and move West for this week’s ISPS Handa World Super 6.
The unique format will welcome it’s second edition at Lake Karrinyup Country Club and a host of the world’s best golfers will tee it up with a goal of making the 24-man knockout format that starts on Sunday.
The hard, fast, undulating layout at Lake Karrinyup is perfect for drama and match play golf. It tends to favour those who are aggressive off the tee and possess a sharp touch around the green.
With that in mind, here’s three players our statistics guru believes you should consider for yourFantasy Race to Dubai team.
Favourite: Thomas Pieters
As one of the biggest names in the field, Thomas Pieters will have a target on his chest when it comes to the weekend however the Belgian has all the talent capable of winning this week. He arrives in Oz on the back of seven straight top 30 finishes worldwide and appears to be showing the form that saw him win three times on European Tour in the space of 13 months.
The 27-year World Cup winner may have the perfect game for this format, with a perfect mix of strength and touch. He ranked in the top 30 on Tour last year in Driving Distance, Birdies Made and Putts per Green in Regulation.
Should he make the knockout stage, his impressive match play record will stand him in good stead for the six hole matches.
Form Horse: Tom Lewis
England’s Tom Lewis is quietly one of the most in-form players in golf. The 28 year old nine top 15 finishes since September, spanning just 11 starts on the European Tour and Challenge Tour.
In his last start out, Lewis finished third behind Dustin Johnson and Haotong Li at the Saudi International powered by SBIA, a week that included a third round 62.
Lewis’ game is built on consistency and that could work well to get him into the final 24 in Perth and frustrate any opponents in the knockout stages.
He is fifth on Tour in Scrambling in 2019 and one of only two players averaged 1.5 bogeys per round or fewer. He seems a lock to make the top 24 after three rounds.
Wild Card: Jazz Janewattananond
His name might be hard to spell but his form is easy to understand. Jazz Janewattananond has four top five finishes in his last five starts, including a win at the SMBC Singapore Open against a field that included Sergio Garcia, Paul Casey and Matt Fitzpatrick.
The 23-year old’s strength lies in his accuracy tee-to-green and his hot putter. He ranked in the top 25 in Fairways Hit in 2018 and top 40 in almost all putting categories.
His form would suggest is his maturing into a top-level professional, notching 22 top ten finishes since the start of 2017.
Those are three potential stars of your Fantasy Race to Dubai team, but you need to pick six. Select your team now, before Thursday’s opening round.
