Fantasy Three to watch in Oman

The European Tour heads to Muscat this week for the Oman Open.

David Lipsky

The stunning Al Mouj Golf plays host to an elite field for the 12th event in the 2019 Race to Dubai.

Here’s three players our statistics guru believes you should consider for your Fantasy Race to Dubai team.

Form Horse: David Lipsky

The American has a win to his name already this season and goes into the week on the back of an impressive outing at the WGC-Mexico Championship.

Lipsky won the Alfred Dunhill Championship by two shots in December and last week had a fine showing in the opening World Golf Championships event of the year. He finished in a tie for tenth in an elite group alongside Tiger Woods, Keegan Bradley and Joost Luiten.

He has two other top-25 finishes in the 2019 season and will looking for a high finish in his first appearance at the Oman Open.

Favourite: Joost Luiten

Joost Luiten

The reigning champion is the man to beat in Muscat. Luiten lifted the inaugural Oman Open last year, finishing two shots clear of Chris Wood. That was his sixth victory on the European Tour and while he has not yet added another trophy to his collection, he has been in good form this season.

Last week's tie for tenth in Mexico was his third top ten of the season in just four events. On his first start of the campaign he finished third in January's Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA, and he ended this month's Saudi International powered by SBIA in a tie for sixth.

That form, coupled with his history at Al Mouj Golf, makes him the early favourite.

Wild Card: Bernd Wiesberger

The Austrian is still getting back up to speed after his long injury-enforced absence in 2018. This week will be his seventh start of the season after he was out of action for seven months with a wrist injury.

Wiesberger may not have challenged towards the top of the leaderboard this year, but this is a man who had six top-ten finishes, including one win, in his last full season and is a six-time winner on the European Tour.

It is only a matter of time before the 33-year-old is back among the contenders and this week at Oman could prove to be his return to top form.
