Ahead of the sixth edition of the Made in Denmark presented by FREJA, our stats guru has crunched the numbers to bring you three suggestions for your fantasy teams this week.
Favourite: Matt Wallace
You really can’t look past the defending champion. Not only does the four-time European Tour winner arrive in Farsø in excellent form – having finished as a runner-up at the Betfred British Masters and in third place at the US PGA Championship in his last two starts – but the Englishman also has a formidable record in Denmark.
In the eight rounds he has played in the Scandinavian country, four at Himmerland Golf & Spa Resort and four at Silkeborg Golf Club, the 29-year-old gains on average three strokes on the field after every round – the most of any player in the event’s history.
Despite only playing 144 holes, Wallace is also a cumulative 31 under par in Denmark which is the third lowest of any player in the competition’s history. Søren Kjeldsen and Bradley Dredge are 42 under par and 32 under par respectively, but they have each played more than 300 holes – double that of Wallace.
Given his great track Danish record, and abundance of recent form, we expect Wallace to be firmly in contention again this week.
Form horse: Erik van Rooyen
Whisper it quietly, but it’s only a matter of time before van Rooyen wins on the European Tour.
The South African, currently in his second season on Europe’s top tier having graduated from the Challenge Tour in 2017, is enjoying a purple patch having finished no lower than tied 29thin his last five starts – including tied eighth at last week’s US PGA Championship.
Consistently a contender at the top of leaderboards, most recently at the Trophée Hassan II where he led going into the final day before finishing two behind eventual champion Jorge Campillo, this week could be the one when the World Number 89 claims that elusive first victory.
Wildcard: Bradley Dredge
It’s been 13 years since Dredge last triumphed on the European Tour – but write him off at your peril.
The Welshman may have missed the cut in his last two starts, but he has shown promising signs this season – particularly when he held his own against a world-class field at the Saudi International powered by SBIA, where he finished in a share of 13th.
There really is something about Denmark for the 45-year-old, who behind Kjeldsen has made more birdies (78) and is more under par (32) than any other player – a recipe for more Danish delight, we think.
