With the European Tour in the Netherlands for the 100th staging of the KLM Open our stats guru has crunched the numbers to make three suggestions for your fantasy teams this week.
Favourite: Patrick Reed
It may be Reed’s first competitive start in the Netherlands, but we’re expecting the former Masters Champion to thrive on his Dutch debut. The American has not missed a cut in his last 12 starts worldwide, winning once and recording four further top-20 finishes to break back into the Official World Golf Ranking top 20.
The World Number 17 averaged 4.56 in par five scoring on the PGA Tour last season, and with five par fives featuring on the par-73 International Course, we can see Reed making the most of the scoring opportunities on offer this week.
Yet to win an event in Europe, we believe Reed is in pole position to become the fourth American to lift the KLM Open trophy.
Form horse: Sebastian Soderberg
Two weeks ago Soderberg showed he has ice in his veins when he triumphed at the Omega European Masters after a five-man play-off, which included Rory McIlroy.
The 28-year-old had triumphed twice on the European Challenge Tour prior to his breakthrough victory, a result that some may have seen coming following a superb closing 63 in his homeland the previous week, which led to a tied fifth finish at the Scandinavian Invitation.
With the pressure firmly off, we see the in-form Swede as someone to keep an eye on.
Wildcard: Chris Wood
Following a tough spell out on the side lines after a serious neck injury – which led to him becoming unable to ‘pick his little ones up’ – the three-time European Tour winner is ramping up his return to professional golf.
The former Ryder Cup player seems to be on the right track with two cuts made in his last two starts, and although very early days, we’re backing the Englishman to find form in a country where he excels.
With his excellent recent record in the Netherlands – a top-ten finish in 2017 followed by a solo second last year – Wood might just rediscover his Midas touch in what is a golden year for this event.
