Fantasy Five to Watch at the Alstom Open de France

As we continue the build-up to this week's Alstom Open de France, europeantour.com stats man Steve Doughty picks his quartet to watch out for at Le Golf National.

The 18th at Le Golf National always makes for a thrilling finish to the Alstom Open de France

Thomas Björn

  • Current leader of The Race to Dubai
  • In wonderful form this season culminating in his victory in the Nedbank Challenge
  • Has recorded six top ten finishes in all with three coming in his last four starts and the last of which being a tie for eighth in Cologne last week
  • Has a solid record at Le Golf National including a tied eighth last year and third in 2007

Jamie Donaldson

  • Although yet to win in 2014 has proved very consistent with three top five finishes on The European Tour, the last of them being a share of fifth in last week’s BMW International Open
  • Has only failed to make one cut this season
  • His career-best Alstom Open de France finish was 12 months ago, when he finished tied sixth
  • Would become the first Welsh winner of the oldest continental European Open

Simon Dyson

  • Has been gradually compiling a very consistent 2014 season having played in 18 events with five top ten finishes

- Three of these top tens have been in the space of his last seven tournaments, most notably two tied fifth places at the BMW PGA Championship and BMW International Open

  • Finished fifth here 12 months ago

Francesco Molinari

  • Although winless this season, he returns to a venue where he has fond memories
  • Twice a runner-up in the Alstom Open de France, firstly losing a play-off to Miguel Angel Jiménez in 2010 and then runner-up again in 2012 to Marcel Siem
  • The Italian has only been outside the top 25 in one of his last six European Tour events
  • Has produced seven top 25 finishes in this event and looking for European Tour win number four

Marcel Siem

  • The winner in 2012, could be inspired by countryman and US Open champion Martin Kaymer and become the second German to win on The European Tour in 2014
  • Has been very consistent this season missing just one cut from his 12 European Tour appearances
  • Has a highest finish this season of tied seventh in the BMW PGA Championship with his best form coming in recent times
  • After his top ten at Wentworth, Siem was an excellent tied 12th in the US Open Championship and tied 14th in the Irish Open
