INTERESTING FACTS
Defending Champion Ian Poulter will aim to join an exclusive club by successfully defending the Italian Open Telecom Italia. The feat has only been accomplished twice by Auguste Boyer (1930-31) and Flory van Donck (1938 & 47). The Englishman has been very successful in Italy, wih his maiden European Tour International Schedule title in his rookie season of 2000 at Is Molas. In his three previous appearances in the tournament, Poulter has won twice and finished tied third in 2001 behind Gregory Havret. For his 11 rounds, he is 57 under par and broken 70 on each occasion. The tournament in recent years has produced several first-time winners. Patrik Sjöland (1998), Dean Robertson (1999), Ian Poulter (2000) and Gregory Havret (2001) have all broken through into the winners circle.
