INTERESTING FACTS
In its long and established history the Italian Open has seen many highlights, including Seve Ballesteros equalling The European Tour record for consecutive birdies - eight in 1985. In 1990 Richard Boxall captured his only European Tour International Schedule victory, He led from round one, in doing so equalling the European Tour record for largest 36 hole lead by a winner, seven shots, eventually winning by five. The tournament has witnessed many close finishes; six times a play-off has been required since 1972. Often the tournament has a habit of throwing up first-time winners. Since 1986, eight players have made the Italian Open their debut win, indeed that has occurred each of the last four years.
