MARTIN KAYMER FACTFILE:
• Born December 28, 1984.
• Represented Germany in the 2004 Eisenhower Trophy and was part of the Continental Europe Team in the St Andrews Trophy the same year.
• Turned professional in 2005.
• Attended the 2004 European Tour Qualifying School as an amateur and 2005 as professional.
• Won the 2006 Vodafone Challenge on the European Challenge Tour in just his second appearance on the Challenge Tour and first as a professional. Went on to win his second title that season at the Open des Volcans – Challenge de France. Graduated from the Challenge Tour in fourth place from just eight events played.
• Was voted Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year on The European Tour in 2007, becoming the first German to win the award after finishing 41st in the Order of Merit.
• Won his first European Tour title at the 2008 Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship in wire-to-wire fashion. Also won the 2008 BMW International Open on home soil in Germany. Finished eighth in the Order of Merit.
• Finished third in The 2009 Race to Dubai after winning the Alstom Open de France and Scottish Open.
• Won his first Major Championship in 2010, beating Bubba Watson to win the US PGA Championship. Also won the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, KLM Open and Alfred Dunhill Links Championship en route to finishing the season as European Number One.
• Made his debut in The Ryder Cup in 2010 at Celtic Manor.
• Won his third Abu Dhabi title in 2011 and first WGC title at the WGC-HSBC Champions, coming back from five shots behind in the final round to win.
• Gained the point that retained the trophy for Europe in The 2012 Ryder Cup when he beat Steve Stricker in the final day singles.
• Won the 2014 Players Championship and won his second Major title at the US Open Championship. Becomes the first player from Continental Europe to win the US Open Championship.
