European Tour Properties honoured by Solheim Cup involvement

European Tour Properties, the network of world class golfing venues which has expanded its reach to 16 venues globally, has been honoured to work closely with one of its German Destinations, Golf Club St.Leon-Rot, on an exciting journey to host The Solheim Cup.

The 2015 Solheim Cup tees off on Friday morning at Golf Club St.Leon-Rot, and Tour Properties have been privileged to bring an element of the Tour’s Ryder Cup experience and knowledge to bear in the women’s equivalent contest between Europe and the United States.

David MacLaren, Director of Property and Venue Development, commented: “The Solheim Cup is a hugely credible and exciting event on the golfing calendar every two years, and sits alongside The Ryder Cup as an example of how Europe can come together as a continent against the USA. We are delighted to have been closely involved in the process of the Solheim Cup build-up and we wish both teams well for the three day match.”

European Tour Properties are one of the many exhibitors in the Tented Village a The Solheim Cup, close to the city of Heidelberg. The event, won on the last two occasions by Europe, is viewed by MacLaren as the perfect platform to promote the Tour’s 16 venues, not only to the German public but also to the many overseas golfing visitors in attendance.

Representatives from a number of the member venues in the Properties portfolio have congregated at Golf Club St.Leon-Rot, including the host venue’s sister club, Terre Blanche Hotel Spa Golf Resort; Le Golf National in France – which will stage The 2018 Ryder Cup; and PGA Catalunya Resort in Spain.

The greatest team event in women’s golf may have been handicapped by unseasonably wet weather in the Rhine-Necker Valley, but off the course the entertainment has never been less than spectacular, starting with the Gala Dinner in Heidelberg’s Stadthalle on Wednesday.

On Thursday, the Opening Ceremony took place indoors in a mock-up of a Munich Oktoberfest beer hall, and the atmosphere was suitably raucous to match the surroundings, with both USA and European fans making their voices heard.

The team captains, Juli Inkster from American and Sweden’s Karin Koch for Europe introduced their teams and the opening foursomes pairings for the start of the contest at 8am local time on Friday. Let the match begin!
