European Tour honoured at Middle East Golf Awards

The European Tour scooped two trophies at the inaugural Sport 360 Middle East Golf Awards, which was created to recognise the rapidly growing achievements of the golf industry in the region.

The DP World Tour Championship, Dubai won Best Professional Tournament of the Year, while European Tour Dubai Director Nick Tarratt was presented with the final award of the evening for Best Business Personality of the Year, along with golf course designer Peter Harradine, for their contribution to golf in the Middle East for more than 20 years.

The US$8 million tournament, which has just completed its fifth year on the Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates, was shortlisted alongside the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championships, Commercial Bank Qatar Masters and the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.

The European Tour now has seven annual European Tour, Challenge Tour and Senior Tour events across the Middle East including the National Bank of Oman Golf Classic, Dubai Festival City Challenge Tour Grand Final hosted by Al Badia Golf Club, Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, Omega Dubai Desert Classic and the European Tour’s season ending DP World Tour Championship, Dubai.

Sweden’s Henrik Stenson won the 2013 DP World Tour Championship, Dubai and the European Tour’s Race to Dubai to secure his title of European Tour Number One.

During last month’s tournament, the European Tour announced The Race to Dubai has been extended to 2017 and will continue to be played at Jumeirah Golf Estates.
