Sweden's Martin Erlandsson birdied seven of the first ten holes to lead The Johnnie Walker Championship at The Gleneagles Hotel today.
Erlandsson, third in the event two years ago after a closing 66, was joint 20th going into the final round but he made rapid progress on the final day of the tournament.
His form showed no sign of waning as he moved into the back nine holes and on to 11 under par.
The Swede was two ahead of compatriot Peter Hedblom, who was on nine under, and a further shot in front of Scot Paul Lawrie.
Hedblom had led by one overnight and by two after an opening birdie, but then ran up a bogey six on the 516-yard next.
Lawrie's fellow countryman Gary Orr, meanwhile, had six successive birdies around the turn to reach seven under and joint fifth place.
The Scot made further progress as he moved level with Lawrie on eight under par and threatened to post an imposing final score for the leaders to chase.
Dane Søren Hansen, had been in strong contention but a found trouble on the fifth and double bogeyed to drop back to six under par.
New Zealand’s young Danny Lee was also showing strong form on the final day as he was one of a host of players at six under par alongside Hansen.
Grégory Bourdy threatened to make a charge, having been at seven under, but some disappointing putting saw his bid falter as he fell back to five under par.
