English golfing icon Tony Jacklin CBE celebrates 70th birthday at lavish surprise party

Two-time Major winner and the most successful English golfer of his generation, Tony Jacklin CBE, celebrated his 70th birthday at a star-studded surprise party on Sunday 6th July. Guests gathered at The Belfry, one of the most luxurious hotels in the country and the setting of Tony’s first victory as Ryder Cup Captain in 1985, to celebrate the occasion in style.

The evening began with a champagne reception before Tony arrived to be greeted by friends, family and guests from his professional past. One of the guests of honour was 18-time Major winner Jack Nicklaus, who co-designed ‘The Concession’ course with Tony, named after the moment he famously conceded Tony’s final putt in the 1969 Ryder Cup.

Also in attendance were fellow professionals Bernard Gallacher, Tommy Horton, Peter Alliss and Peter Baker; snooker legend Willie Thorne; former racing driver John Fitzpatrick and Tony’s Strictly Come Dancing partner Aliona Vilani.

The entire evening was organised by Tony’s management company, Champions (UK) plc, who are specialists in planning high-profile events across the country.

Tony’s career is unique in golfing history as he played a central role in revolutionising European golf with his profile and success, his four-time spell as Ryder Cup Captain and the golfers he went on to inspire.
