James Anderson, Stuart Broad and Kevin Pietersen, three of England’s greatest-ever cricketers, will all compete in the star-studded celebrity Pro-Am on the eve of the BMW PGA Championship.
The fourth Rolex Series event of the year will take place at the historic Wentworth Club from September 19-22 after moving from its traditional May date, and the Pro-Am will act as the pre-cursor to the hotly anticipated tournament.
The Pro-Am has become an eagerly-anticipated event in its own right in recent years with some of the biggest names from the world of sport, film and television playing alongside golf’s global stars, and the cricketing trio are the first to confirm their participation on Wentworth’s world-famous West Course.
Anderson, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest bowlers of all-time, has taken more Test wickets than any other fast bowler in the history of the game. He has got the better of the batsman on 575 occasions, including 27 five wicket hauls and 104 dismissals in the Ashes.
Broad has been a mainstay of England’s front line bowling attack for more than 11 years, winning four Ashes series and the 32-year-old currently sits eighth in the list of all-time highest wicket takers in Test matches.
As a duo, Anderson and Broad have been the heartbeat of England’s cricket success over the last ten years and they continued their partnership by teeing it up at the Betfred British Masters Pro-Am in May, playing alongside fellow cricketer Matt Prior and 2008 Ryder Cup star Oliver Wilson.
Anderson said: “It was great fun playing at Hillside, despite the weather, and it will be really exciting to play at Wentworth in September after England have hopefully won the Cricket World Cup and regained The Ashes.”
Broad said: “We had such a fantastic time at the British Masters and I couldn’t miss out on the Pro-Am at Wentworth, which was hugely fun last time I played. Hopefully we will better our seventh place at Hillside!”
Completing the trio is Pietersen, who is no stranger to Wentworth Club as a local resident and is often spotted on the fairways of the West Course.
The South-African born batsman is the all-time fifth highest run scorer for England having amassed 8,181 runs in 104 Tests at an average of 47.28. He was an integral part of every England XI across all formats of the game during his playing career and hung up his bat with 23 Test match centuries to his name, the second highest of any English batsman in the history of the game.
Pietersen said: “This feels like a home event for me so I am incredibly excited to play in the Pro-Am once again. I had some great playing days alongside Jimmy and Broady when we were with England and it will be fantastic to take to the fairways with them at Wentworth.”
