For those competitors not exempt direct into the Championship (see exemptions listed below)
there will be 2 stages of qualifying competitions.
1. Regional Qualifying (18 holes) will take place on Monday 8th July 2002 at
Alwoodley, Blackmoor, Minchin Hampton, County Louth, Silloth-on-Solway
Hadley Wood, Hindhead, Little Aston, Northamptonshire County, Notts, Ormskirk,
Orsett, Renfrew, Stockport, Trentham and Wildernesse.
2. Final Qualifying (36 holes) will take place on Sunday 14th and Monday 15th July
2002 at Dunbar, Gullane No1, Luffness New and North Berwick.
N.B. THOSE PLAYERS WHO APPEAR IN THE DRAW FOR ROUNDS 3 &
4 OF THE BARCLAYS SCOTTISH OPEN WILL BE INELIGIBLE TO
COMPETE IN THE FINAL QUALIFYING COMPETITION.
The entry fee of £100.00 with the completed entry form must be sent to the Royal &
Ancient Championship Entries Department to be received by close of entries on
Thursday 30th May 2002.
EXEMPTIONS FROM REGIONAL QUALIFYING
Exemption for 2002 will be granted to the following:
(1) Anyone who played in the 2001 Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St. Annes.
(2) Categories 1, 1(a), 2, 2(b), 3, 3(a), 3(b), 7, 7(a), 8, 9, 10, 11, 11(a), 12 and
13 from the 2002 European Tour Exemption List.
(3) The first 10 PGA members from the 2001 PGA Club Professionals Championship.
(4) Categories 1-11, 19-24 and 26 from the 2002 USPGA Tour Tournament Field
Category List.
(5) The players finishing in rankings 16 to 45 on the 2001 USPGA Buy.Com Tour.
(6) The first 10 PGA of America members from the 2001 PGA of America Club
Professionals Championship.
(7) The top 100 players from the 2001/2002 PGA Tour of Australasia.
(8) The top 100 players from the 2001 Japan Golf Tour.
(9) The top 80 players from the 2001/2002 Southern Africa PGA Tour.
(10) The top 80 players from the 2001 Asian PGA Davidoff Tour.
(11) The top 30 players from the 2001/2002 Tour de Las Americas.
(12) The top 30 players from the 2001 Canadian Tour.
(13) Past playing members of the Ryder and President’s Cup teams.
(14) Playing members of the 2001 Walker Cup teams.
(15) The Amateur Champions 1997-2001.
(16) The USA Amateur Champions 1996-2000.
(17) The European Individual Amateur Champions 1999 and 2000.
(18) The English, Scottish and Welsh Amateur Champions 1999-2001
(19) The Irish Amateur Champions 2000-2002. Blank entry will be made on behalf of
the 2002 Champion.
Note: Exemption for performance as an Amateur under (14) to (19) inclusive will only be granted
if the Competitor concerned is still an Amateur on 14th July 2002.
EXEMPTIONS FROM REGIONAL AND FINAL QUALIFYING
Exemption for 2002 will be granted to the following:
(1) First 15 and anyone tying for 15th place in the 2001 Open Championship.
(2) The Open Champions 1992-2001
(3) Past Open Champions aged 65 or under on 21st July 2002
(4) The first 50 players on the Official World Golf Ranking as at 30th May 2002.
(5) First 20 in the Official Money List of the PGA European Tour for 2001.
(6) The Volvo PGA Champions for 1999-2002.
(7) First 5 and anyone tying for 5th place, who are not otherwise exempt, in the top 20
of the Official Money List of the European Tour for 2002 as at 30th May.
(8) First 7 and anyone tying for 7th place, who are not otherwise exempt, in the top 25
of a cumulative money list taken from all official European Tour events from the
Volvo PGA Championship up to and including the Barclays Scottish Open. Blank
entries will be made on behalf of players qualifying in this category.
(9) The leading 8 players not otherwise exempt having applied (8) above, in the 2002
Barclays Scottish Open. Ties for last place or places will be decided by the better
final round score and, if still tied, by the better third round score and then by
the better second round score. If still tied, all players thus still tying will
be deemed exempt under this category. Blank entries will be made on behalf of
players qualifying in this category.
Note: Those players who appear in the draw for Rounds 3 & 4 of the Barclays
Scottish Open will be ineligible to compete in the Final Qualifying Competition.
(10) The US Open Championships for 1993-2002. Blank entry will be made on behalf
of the 2002 Champion.
(11) The US Masters Champions for 1998-2002.
(12) The USPGA Champions for 1997-2001.
(13) The USPGA Tour Players Champions for 1999-2002.
(14) First 20 on the Official Money List of the USPGA Tour for 2001.
(15) First 5 and anyone tying for 5th place, who are not otherwise exempt, in the top 20
of the Official Points Standing of the USPGA Tour for 2002 as at 30th May.
(16) First 7 and anyone tying for 7th place, who are not otherwise exempt, in the top 25
of a cumulative money list taken from the USPGA Tour Players Championship and
the 5 USPGA Tour events leading up to and including the Advil Western Open.
Blank entries will be made on behalf of players qualifying in this category.
(17) The leading 8 players not otherwise exempt having applied (16) above, in the 2002
Advil Western Open. Ties for last place or places will be decided by the better
final round score and, if still tied, by the better third round score and then by
the better second round score. If still tied, all players thus still tying will be
deemed exempt under this category. Blank entries will be made on behalf of players
qualifying in this category 2002.
(18) Selected members of the 2001 Ryder Cup Teams.
(19) The Canadian Open Champion for 2001.
(20) The Japan Open Champion for 2001.
(21) First place on the Asian PGA Davidoff Tour for 2001.
(22) First 3 and anyone tying for 3rd place on the Tour of Australasia for 2001/2002.
(23) First 3 and anyone tying for 3rd place on the Japan Golf Tour for 2001.
(24) First 2 and anyone tying for 2nd place on the Southern Africa PGA Tour for
2001/2002.
(25) The leading player, not otherwise exempt, in the 2002 Mizuno Open. Blank entry
will be made on behalf of the player qualifying in this category.
(26) First 4 and anyone tying for 4th place, who are not otherwise exempt having
applied (25) above, in the top 20 of a cumulative money list taken from all official
Japan Golf Tour events from the Japan PGA Championship up to and including the
Mizuno Open. Blank entries will be made on behalf of players qualifying in this
category.
(27) The Senior British Open Champion for 2001.
(28) The Amateur Champion for 2002. Blank entry will be made on behalf of the player
qualifying in this category.
(29) The USA Amateur Champion for 2001.
(30) The European Individual Amateur Champion for 2001.
Note: Exemption for performance as an Amateur under (28) to (30) inclusive will only be granted if
the Competitor concerned is still an Amateur on 18th July 2002.
