Edoardo Molinari set the early pace on the opening day of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
The Italian reached the turn in 31 at St Andrews after firing five birdies on his front nine, including three in a row from the fifth.
He heads to the back nine with a one-shot lead over a large chasing pack which includes Rikard Karlberg, Raphaël Jacquelin and home favourite Stephen Gallacher - all playing their opening rounds at St Andrews - as well as Alex Noren at Carnoustie and Matt Ford at Kingsbarns.
Molinari followed up pars at the first and second with a birdie at the third before making further gains at the fifth, sixth and seventh to get to four under.
He then picked up another shot at the ninth to jump to the top of the leaderboard.
