Simon Dyson was the first player to make a significant move in the third of the US PGA Championship at Whistling Straits.
The Englishman, looking to re-ignite his Ryder Cup hopes after sliding down the table to 16th, had a hat-trick of birdies from the 11th to join Rory McIlroy, Simon Khan and eight others in fifth spot on five under.
Dyson was playing with Phil Mickelson, who remained two under and after a wayward second to the long 11th had to pick his ball off a man's body.
World Number One Tiger Woods resumed with a par, but his partner Francesco Molinari birdied and improved to four under with Scot Stephen Gallacher.
